This page explains what information this website collects, why, and what your choices are. I have tried to keep it short and plain.

Who I am

This website is run by Nick Maddock, a travel creator based in the United States, under the name Nick Maddock Global. My group trips are also called Global Narratives trips. On this page, “I”, “me” and “my” mean Nick Maddock.

For anything about your data, email hello@nickmaddockglobal.com.

The short version

  • This website has no advertising trackers.
  • It counts visits with Google Analytics, so I can see which pages help people. Google Analytics and Instagram videos can set cookies, so in Europe and the UK they only switch on after you say yes. You can switch them off at any time. See the Cookie Policy.
  • I only collect what you choose to send me in a form, an email or a message.
  • I never sell your information.

What I collect

1. What you send me

  • Trip interest form: your name, email, phone number, nationality, Instagram handle, the trip you want, and your answers to the questions on the form.
  • Trip survey: your name, email, phone number, nationality, Instagram handle (optional), and the trips and dates you are interested in.
  • SyrianGuides inquiry form: your name, email, phone number, the kind of tour you want, your dates and any comments.
  • Syria Resources sign-up: your name and email.
  • Collaboration form (Work With Me): your name, email, WhatsApp number, Instagram handle and your message.
  • Contact form: your name, email, what your message is about, and your message.
  • Emails and messages: whatever you write when you contact me by email, WhatsApp or social media.
  • If you book a trip: the details needed for your visa and bookings, such as a copy of your passport, your flight times and any food or health needs you choose to share. These are sent to me or to SyrianGuides directly, not through this website.

2. What is collected automatically

Like every website, the company that hosts this site (Vercel) receives basic technical data when your browser asks for a page: your IP address, browser type, the page you asked for and the time. It is used to deliver the site and keep it secure. I do not use it to follow what you do.

Visit statistics. I use Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager to understand how the website is used: which pages are opened, how far down people scroll, which buttons and links are pressed, whether a form was started or sent, the kind of device and browser, and the rough area you are visiting from (country and city). It does not record what you type into forms, and I do not use it to identify you. I do not use tracking pixels or advertising cookies. If you are in Europe or the UK, the statistics stay off until you say yes. You can switch them off at any time on the Cookie Policy page.

How I use your information

  • To reply to you about trips, collaborations and other requests.
  • To plan and run trips you have applied for or booked: group lists, visa help, hotels, transport and trip updates.
  • To tell you about trips you asked to hear about, if you filled out the survey. You can ask me to stop at any time.
  • To tell you when Syria Resources launches, if you signed up for that. You can ask me to remove you at any time.
  • To improve the website, using the visit statistics described above.
  • To keep the website secure and stop spam.
  • To meet legal duties, such as tax records.

If you are in the EU or the UK, the legal reasons I rely on are: your consent (forms, visit statistics and Instagram videos), steps taken at your request before a booking and to carry out a booking, my legitimate interest in running and protecting the website and answering messages, and legal obligations.

Who I share it with

I do not sell or rent your information, and I do not share it for anyone else's marketing. I share it only with the people and services needed to do what you asked:

  • SyrianGuides, the licensed tour company in Syria that operates my trips, and the hotels, drivers and authorities needed for your booking and visa.
  • Y2AD, my talent agency, for collaboration requests that they handle.
  • Google, for email, the private Google Sheet where the trip, survey, inquiry, collaboration, contact and sign-up forms on this site save your answers, and the visit statistics (Google Analytics).
  • Vercel, which hosts this website.
  • Payment companies (Wise, Venmo, Revolut, PayPal). You pay inside their apps. This website never sees your card or bank details.

These companies have their own privacy policies.

Content from other companies on this site

  • Instagram videos (Meta). When an Instagram video loads, your browser connects to Instagram. Instagram may set cookies and can see that you visited the page. If you are in Europe or the UK, the videos stay off until you press “Show videos”.
  • Visit statistics (Google). When they are on, your browser connects to Google, which sets the cookies described in the Cookie Policy.
  • The forms on this site (trip, survey, inquiry, collaboration, contact and sign-up). When you press send, your browser sends your answers to Google, which saves them in my private sheet. Nothing is sent before you press send.
  • Photos, videos and fonts are served from this website itself.

Where your information goes

I am based in the United States and my trips take place in Syria. Your information is handled in the United States and, for trip bookings, in Syria. These countries may have different data protection rules than your own.

How long I keep it

I keep inquiry and survey details for as long as they are useful for replying to you and planning trips, and I delete them when you ask. Booking and payment records are kept for as long as tax and legal rules require.

Your rights

You can ask me to:

  • show you the information I hold about you
  • correct it or delete it
  • stop using it, or stop contacting you
  • send you a copy you can take elsewhere

You can also withdraw a consent you gave. Email hello@nickmaddockglobal.com and I will reply within 30 days. I will never treat you differently for using these rights.

If you live in the EU or the UK and are unhappy with my answer, you can complain to your local data protection authority. If you live in California: I do not sell or share personal information as those words are used in California law.

Children

This website is not meant for children, and I do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.

Security

I take reasonable steps to protect your information from loss, misuse and access by the wrong people. No website or email can be made perfectly secure, so please do not send more than is needed.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be on this page with a new date at the top.
