Cookie Policy

Last updated: October 7, 2026

A short explanation of cookies on this website, and how to change your choice.

The short version

  • This website has no advertising trackers.
  • It counts visits with Google Analytics, so I can see which pages help people. That sets cookies.
  • Instagram videos and the collaboration form come from other companies, and they may set cookies too.
  • In Europe and the UK, none of these switch on until you say yes. Everywhere, you can switch them off below.

Your choice for visit statistics

Your choice for Instagram videos

Your choices are saved in your own browser, on this device only. They are not cookies and they are never sent to me. If you clear your browser data, the site will ask again.

What may set cookies

  • Visit statistics, from Google (Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager). They show me which pages people open, how far down they scroll, which buttons they press and whether a form was started or sent. They do not record what you type. Google Analytics sets cookies named _ga and _ga_… that last up to two years. I do not use them for advertising.
  • Instagram videos, from Instagram (Meta). They are on the maps on Home and the trip pages, and in the video row on Group Trips. They are there to play my videos. Instagram may also use cookies for its own measurement and ads.

If you say no, you can still watch every video by using the “Watch on Instagram instead” link. The forms on this site are part of the site itself and set no cookies.

What is saved in your browser by this site

Two small settings, called nk-embeds and nk-stats. They remember whether you said yes or no to Instagram videos and to visit statistics. They are kept in your browser's local storage, not as cookies, until you clear your browser data or change your choice above.

Other things your browser loads

  • Photos, videos and fonts are served from this website itself.
  • Links to other sites (Instagram, payment apps, SyrianGuides and partners) open those sites, which have their own cookies and policies.

Blocking cookies in your browser

Every browser lets you block or delete cookies in its settings. If your browser sends a “Global Privacy Control” signal, this site treats it as a no to visit statistics and to Instagram videos until you choose otherwise. Google also offers a browser add-on that switches Google Analytics off on every website.
